Altea is one of the few Mediterranean towns to boast sea, river and mountain environments in its exceptional geography. Its beautiful bay area is bounded to the north by the impressive Ifach Rock and to the south by Sierra Helada with its sheer sides. The river Algar is one of very few in the region never to run dry in the summer. Crowning the charms of Altea stands Sierra Bernia, rising to a height of 1129 m, whose slopes run down to the sea and yet whose summits are frequently snow capped in winter.
